Fondant Cake Woes
I started making fondant cakes around 8 years ago. Our first cake was made of fondant from Wilton which costed around PHP600. Ouch. So my profit for that cake was just ~PHP200. Super ouch.
I could not offer fondant cakes then because it felt like the profit was too small, which does not compensate all the efforts of making the cake. Furthermore, I still had a lot of errors. For example, somebody ordered transformers cupcakes. I did 50 pcs the night before pick up, then the following morning, all the cupcake toppers looked like melted candles. I had to rush doing another set of toppers before pick up time.
I also experienced making a 3D ribbon topper using fondant and ended up with a flat one. It felt awful seeing the results.
So I decided to attend a workshop in Manila. The workshop fee was PHP3,500, plus transportation and food costs of ~PHP1,500. Total expenses: PHP5,000.
It's quite pricey, especially for a newbie like me. Thank God my mom paid for the workshop fee as her birthday gift for me.
Fast forward to 2017, I have made countless fondant cakes for various occasions. This year, I also got a calling to help newbies in baking. And to make things easier for them, compared to what I went through at the start of my pursuit for my passion to bake.
Since making fondant cake is very challenging, I made a detailed e-book on how to make it from scratch. To demonstrate the process, I also developed video tutorials. All at PHP500 only, just 10% of my expenses when I attended a workshop. As bonus, I also added a quick demo on making a topper, as well as a costing guide so you'll know how much to charge your customers.
Sulit na sulit. You can easily get your ROI from your first fondant cake sale.
